October 31st is Reformation Day. It is a remembrance of the day in 1517 when a monk by the name of Martin Luther, tacked up his “95 Theses” to the castle door in Wittenberg, Germany. That action set off a chain of events that radically changed not only the church but the whole world. Read more…

There used to be a Ramada Inn at the intersection of Miller Lane and Little York Road. Do you remember that? The evidence of a motel is gone, but it used to be there. The Fourth of July is obviously one of our nation’s most celebrated holidays. It was truly an historic day when the members of the Continental Congress put their signatures to the Declaration of Independence in 1776. We generally celebrate the day with parades, fireworks, and cookouts. Actually, the Americans of the late 18th and early 19th centuries did the same kind of things. However, they also did something we usually do not do. They would have community meetings in which the ministers would preach sermons that related to the beginning of our nation. Whole towns would gather to give thanks to God and recommit themselves to keeping the Lord first in their lives. Read more…

One of Jesus’ most well-known teachings is His teaching on prayer. Even people, who know very little about the Bible or the Christian faith, are often familiar with the “Lord’s Prayer.” It is a prayer that should be memorized, but it is actually meant as a model to guide us as we pray. Jesus tells us that we should begin our prayers with praise and adoration. We are to pray that all people everywhere would “hallow,” or treat His name as holy.
